Twenty-five percent of the households in Cambodia are headed by women. Many lack the means to support their families and their lives are very difficult. They struggle daily to just survive.
Friendship with Cambodia provides funds for small loans to women ($25 - 50) so they can start a business. This is a wonderful way to help them out of poverty with dignity; and it is a long-term solution.
The women use their new income to repair their house, send their children to school, improve their nutrition and buy medicine when someone is sick.
Friendship with Cambodia supports the social workers who work with the women and give them encouragement. When the women realize that they are capable of setting and achieving goals, their self-confidence improves. Their despair is transformed into hope.
